Lower Body Nerve Pain Symptoms
Do you have intermittent or consistent pain in your lower back or one or both legs and/or feet, or does that part of your body just feel weird some or all of the time?
The pain from sciatica can cause a lot of issues in our lives not only because it can be very difficult to live with, but also because it is difficult to self-treat. The pain is caused by the sciatic nerve, a nerve that runs from the lower back down through the legs.
You can feel pain from this nerve in different regions of your body, including your lower back, hips, and one or both of your legs. It can also be felt as burning or tingling type of sensation down one or both of your legs, or even a numbness or weakness in one or both legs or your feet. It can even be difficult to move your leg or your foot, or you may experience a shooting pain that can make it very difficult to stand up.
Most of the time, the pain is felt on only one side of your body, but it can affect both sides. Sometimes the nerve pain can be just an annoyance, but in the worst cases it can be so severe that it is difficult to move normally. It can also cause problems with bladder and bowel control. Pain from sciatica can vary in intensity but it is well-known to go from bad to worse in many people.
Sciatic Nerve Pain Causes
Lower body symptoms caused by the sciatic nerve have several potential underlying causes. These include when the spinal canal in the lower back becomes more narrow (known as lumbar spinal stenosis), a breakdown of the discs in the lower back which is known as degenerative disc disease.
Other causes of sciatica pain also include spondylolisthesis which is where a vertebra in the back moves forward over another one, muscle spasms that can occur in the buttocks or your back, and pregnancy. Aggravating factors associated with lower back nerve pain include a lack of exercise, sleeping on a mattress that is not right for you, high heel use, and being excessively overweight.
Treating Sciatica Pain and Other Symptoms
With some of these factors, reversing the condition that is aggravating the pain can reverse the symptoms. For example, if you have been wearing high heels more often than normal recently, if you stop wearing high heels for a while your symptoms may very well lessen or even disappear.
However, if you are experiencing pain or other nerve-caused issues that you are unable to manage or control, it may be time to get them checked out by a professional that can offer you solutions.
